Academic revival and measures taken by educational institutions

Due to the new normality caused by the consequences of COVID 19, educational institutions had to adapt to be able to continue the school process of their students. When we were told that we were quarantining the challenge for schools and universities was to create a virtual system through which they could continue to guarantee learning to their students. But learning was not only for children and young people, teachers had to adapt to handling technological and virtual tools that they probably knew little or nothing about and many of the parents learned along with their children that the internet can take us anywhere.

After a process, the system was adapted and at that time the institutions raised the possibility of an alternation between presence and virtuality handling biosafety protocols to protect the health of all parties involved.

The idea is that by means of gradual measures students can gradually and according to advances in health guarantees return to their educational institutions in person and maintain their full school days between face-to-face hours and virtual hours.

The alternation model must be authorized to each institution by the Ministry of Education working hand in hand with the Ministry of Health in this area, the institution must also follow biosecurity protocols that guarantee the protection of both students and teachers and parties involved in the functioning of the institutions.

How does alternation work?

  • It is up to the parents whether or not their children attend school in person.

  • Students who do not attend face-to-face have live classes on school platforms or have a teacher who dictates them on a virtual basis.

  • Each institution can arrange the hours of attendance of students as it sees fit on the basis that the number of students in each classroom is reduced. Some institutions shortened the daily classroom schedule and complement it with the virtual one; others prefer that students go some full days a week and the other days attend their classes in a virtual way.

  • Students should confirm their health status with a daily symptom report which can be done by the parents of younger children or by the students themselves when they are older.

  • Both pupils and all parties involved in the provision of the education service must follow detailed biosecurity protocols which start from the moment they leave their homes and go to the institution either by private or private means of transport, until they spend their time in the institution and return home.

The purpose of the alternation measure is to ensure that education returns to the classroom by 100 per cent through a process in which effective measures are taken by students, teachers and administrative staff are aware that by taking care of themselves they take care of others and can quietly receive their education.
