This is one of the many sweet nicknames for Barranquilla, capital of the department of Atlántico, bordered by the beautiful Caribbean Sea, into which the Magdalena River flows, the main river in Colombia and which crosses the country from south to north.

Barranquilla is a multicultural city, since, through its port, El Puerto de Colombia, it welcomed thousands of foreigners who arrived in the country, either because it was their final destination or because they could not leave when discovered its warm people and many opportunities to establish their families and businesses. This is why part of its cuisine includes classic grafts from Arab, European, Asian and African cuisines that converge to give life to the widest variety of flavors.

If you are contemplating moving to Barranquilla, whether due to preference or job assignment, we recommend you consider the following:

  • The most common areas for foreigners to reside are found north of the city: Alto Prado, Rio Mar, Villa Campestre, Prado Mar.

  • For leisure time, how nice to escape to the sea, which is only 20 minutes away, if you are located somewhere at the north of the city, see a sunset at the Castillo de Salgar! Or some fried foods in Puerto Velero, as you enjoy the feeling of the soft gray sand that distinguishes the beaches of Barranquilla.
